Get Fuzzy is just about the most consistently funny and entertaining strip running. What more need I say? Well, I have to correct something I said in reviewing the last couple of Treasuries. Counting strips, I concluded that they each only collected about a year and a half of Fuzzy, rather than two years as I initially assumed. But I think I was wrong; each Treasury does contain two years' worth of NEW strips. Until rereading all the Treasuries and being reminded of more past storylines (and sometimes checking the fine-print copyright dates) I hadn't realized how often Get Fuzzy goes into reprints. That's fine, though; Darby Conley deserves some time off, especially if it helps him keep on doing what he's doing.OK, an addendum/update: I recently learned that "Get Fuzzy" has actually been totally reprint for ... quite a while. (How could I not notice this earlier? The newspaper I get, struggling like apparently all papers, has gone to a weird schedule where they deliver only three papers a week. It really messes up comics continuity.) It's been all-reprint for so long that some papers have canceled it. No explanation for this is given anywhere, and it's not even clear whether Darby Conley is alive or dead. The strips in THE STINKING may be the last, or nearly the last, new strips to be published. Bummer. Get Fuzzy isn't for everyone. My father does not like it, but I love it. Together with Pearls Before Swine, I think it is one the better strips to emerge after the Far Side and Calvin & Hobbes. The humor would appeal to people who grew up with The Simpsons (as I did) and other humor along those lines. It's a bit irreverent and a fair number of the jokes are character driven. If you don't know the characters very well, you will probably miss a good deal of what this book has to offer.This Get Fuzzy treasury is not as good as some of the earlier ones (I'm a particular fan of Groovitude and Looserpaloza), but it is still very enjoyable. If you like and follow the comic regularly, you won't be disappointed. People who are unfamiliar with the strip and its characters probably won't enjoy this treasury. Some of the jokes and stories require some knowledge of plot lines and characters.I definitely suggest this treasury to fans. Others should read the strip in their local paper and then make up their mind.
